Exploring Shared Humanity through Hellenic Studies

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Director of the Oxford Centre for Byzantine Studies, Professor Peter Frankopan, recently featured in a video released by the Foundation, explaining the importance of Hellenic history. The Foundation's support of the OCBR has been crucial in allowing us to maintain our status as a centre of excellence in Byzantine history, research and teaching.

To understand where we're going, we have to understand where we've been. Greece's rich history and culture offer a window to better understand everything from how knowledge is created and understood, to sports and the arts. Over the last 25 years, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) has supported Hellenic studies programs at universities around the world, aiming to help create hubs of scholarship in the field-through which scholars from many related disciplines work together, conduct research, and engage the public-and to encourage international collaboration across institutions.
