Outreach event: Aspire Liverpool & Classics for All North

We are excited to announce that Professor Peter Frankopan, Dr Ine Jacobs and Professor Marek Jankowiak are taking part in an online outreach event co-ordinated by Aspire Liverpool and Classics for All North this evening. Aspire Liverpool aims to raise the aspirations of children in Liverpool schools by encouraging them to seriously consider Oxbridge and other high achieving universities. Classics for All North is funded by the charity Classics for All, and works to expand the opportunities for pupils across the region to study Latin, Greek, Ancient History and Classical Civilisation.  They believe that every child deserves to benefit from the learning, enjoyment and inspiration that Classics offers.

Tonight's event is entitled 'Why History Matters - how to look at the past in a different way' and is open to Year 10 pupils interested in accessing material outside of the typical cirriculum offered by their schools. We hope to inspire younger historians to look at history outside of the Western world and explore one of history's greatest and most successful empires! (Definitley not biased.)

Professor Peter Frankopan will talk about how the Byzantine Empire and why we should shift our geographic focus away from western Europe; Dr Ine Jacobs will talk about the destruction of cultural artefacts in the past and present; and Dr Marek Jankowiak will talk about slavery and its importance in the middle ages.
