Growing Old in Byzantium: The Construction of Ageing in Twelfth-Century Literary and Visual Culture

I am a 3rd year DPhil student in History working on representations of old age in the literature and art of twelfth-century Byzantium. My broader research interests include aspects of literary culture and patronage relationships, Byzantine humour and commemorative practices. In the past year I gave a paper on icon restoration and the rhetoric of ageing at the OUBS's 23rd International Graduate Conference (February 2021). I delivered presentations at a postgraduate conference on Death and Mortality in the Humanities and Social Sciences (November 2020), and at the Oxford Byzantine Graduate Seminar in May 2021. I have also contributed to a book based on the proceedings from the OUBS's 21st International Graduate Conference (forthcoming).
